What is the SEPA mandate?
The SEPA mandate is an agreement between creditor (collector) and debtor (payer). The debtor authorises the creditor to collect payments from the indicated account and authorises the debtor’s bank to honour those instructions.
The creditor must hold a valid mandate before debiting the debtor’s account. It is the document you use to prove to banks that the debit was authorised.
Should I send them to my bank or my client’s bank?
No. The creditor keeps the mandates. They must be available to the debtor’s bank if requested. The debtor’s bank may ask your bank, which will ask you; you must provide it within the required timeframe (often a few working days).
